MACH Scoring

The Master Agility Champion (MACH) title is explained in the Regulations for Agility Trials at the AKC web site. This page is offered to further explain and clear up some common misconceptions about how the MACH points and 2Q's are figured. To earn the MACH a team needs 750 points and 20 2Q's. This doubles, (1500 points and 40 2Qs), for the MACH2; and triples, (2250 points and 60 2Qs), for the MACH3, and so on. Points and 2Qs are earned from the Excellent B Standard Agility Class and the Excellent B Jumpers with Weaves class. In order to earn championship points or 2Qs the team must qualify with a score of 100. These points can be earned along with MX or MXJ legs, but a team must be eligible for both Ex B Std. and Ex B JWW to earn 2Qs. A team can begin earning points as soon as they get into one Ex B class, but they have to be in both in order to earn a 2Q (double Q). For example: A team entered in Ex B Standard, but in Excellent A (or lower) Jumpers with Weaves may earn points from the Ex B Standard class only. 2Qs are not possible until the team is eligible for both Ex B classes. Points: One point is awarded for each full second under the Standard
Course Time (SCT) the dog finishes the course. If the team won 1st place they
double their points, if they placed 2nd then their points are multiplied by 1.5. Another point that merits mention here is that the A and B divisions of the Excellent classes are not divided in the manner that the Novice A and B divisions are. In Excellent, the A division is for dogs that have earned the OA or OAJ and are working toward earning their AX or AXJ. The B division is for those dogs which have earned the AX or AXJ and are working toward their MX, MXJ, or MACH. This program was implemented on 2/1/99. In 7 months the first MACH was earned by Marquand Cheek and his Sheltie Wyatt. © Katie Greer Agility Ability
